Elon Musk announces his starlink network to hit Nigeria – See Hidden Facts
In Nigeria, the four major Telcoms have had a field day for years with only the ncc to regulate them. But I must say they are about to face some raging storm as a competent rival is ready to take them head on!
Last week, the World’s richest man, Elon Musk got approval from the federal government to launch his Starlinks network in Nigeria.
The SpaceX founder will compete with the likes of MTN, Airtel, for Nigeria’s massive telecommunication market.
The billionaire’s revealed that after months of negotiation, his company received approval to operate in Nigeria by the Federal government.
Musk’s Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, providing satellite Internet access coverage to 32 countries where its use has been licensed.
Nigerians will not only enjoy a high-speed network, but one with a low latency broadband optimized to process a very high volume of data with minimal delay.
Speaking, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) confirmed in a statement that it has licensed Starlink, a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX.
This licensing followed a visit to Nigeria by the company’s team in May last year.
According to NCC, the International Gateway license has a 10-year tenure while the ISP license will last for five years. Both licenses take effect from May 2022 with renewal to come after the expiration.
We hope that with the presence of starlink, the price of data and calls can be lower. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed.
