Judge dismissed for stealing the wife of man who filed for divorce.
Judges in the federal courts are appointed by the president on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council and approved by the Senate.
Judges in the state high courts are appointed by the state governors, also on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council, and approved by the state assembly.
The Lagos State Government has announced the sack of a customary court judge, Ishola Razaki Adeyemi over unethical practice.
The judge had allegedly dissolved the marriage of Olayemi Ayeni, who filed the divorce, and subsequently went ahead to steal his wife.
In a video recorded by Ayeni, he claimed that Adeyemi dissolved their union and also denied him access to his children.
The complainant said he protested the development, but the judge who allegedly had interest in his wife got him arrested by the police and he was transferred to Kirikiri Prison.
According to Ayeni, the marriage started having issues when his wife began disrespecting him after he invested 5 million Naira in her business
He said that she packed out and rented an apartment for herself which was surprisingly close to him.
The man said that after he filed for a divorce, the magistrate granted his appeal but went ahead to impregnate his wife.
A statement by Executive Secretary, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Titilola Vivour Adeniyi, said the case was investigated by the Lagos State Judicial Service Commission.
The statement reads; “The attention of the State Government has been drawn to a viral video circulating the social media space wherein one Mr. Olayemi Ayeni (the Complainant) alleged that a former Customary Court Member, Mr. Ishola Razaki Adeyemi, abused his office by exhibiting unprofessional conduct in a customary court case involving the Complainant and his wife and proceeded to snatch his wife and children from him.
The matter which occurred between 2014/2015 was investigated by the Lagos State Judicial Service Commission. The findings of the investigation subsequently led to the termination of the appointment of the Member of the Customary Court”
Adeniyi, however, said that though the matter occurred between 2014 and 2015, the viral video was shared online in 2016 by Ayeni’s friends.
